The baobab is an ancient tree that can live for 5000 years. It is nicknamed the “upside-down tree” because of its branches that look like roots. The baobab is a mythical tree, which represents life and fertility within African tribal tales. Symbol of Senegal, this imposing and solid tree produces fruits whose seeds are pressed to obtain an incredible vegetable oil. Its trunk can reach 12m in diameter and a height of 30m. This vegetable oil is traditionally used by African populations in ingestion in case of diarrhoea or to treat skin injuries.
