The stems are filled with small, green-grey, aromatic and persistent leaves. From May to August, small pink or red flowers gather at the end of the stems.
There are more than 300 different species of thyme.
Know which thyme essential oil you need, because there are several of them:
- “linalool“ EO (Thymus vulgaris ct linalool): anti-infective without specific precaution
- “thujanol” EO (Thymus vulgaris ct thuyanol): anti-infective without specific precautions. It isn’t easy to produce, so this EO is often replaced by marjoram EO because it also contains thujanol.
- “thymol“ EO (Thymus vulgaris ct thymol) major anti-infective but it can cause skin irritation and it is also hepatotoxic
- You also have Thymus “zugis” from Spain with different chemotypes
- The spanish marjoram (Thymus mastichina): respiratory property without specific precaution

PRACTICE
Blood circulation: dilute in calophyllum vegetable oil (5 drops of EO in a tablespoon of vegetable oil) to massage the area to be treated.
Digestive benefits
Hepatic weakness, viral hepatitis (in support): internally on the advice of a specialist or apply 1 drop of this EO diluted with 3 drops of vegetable oil directly to the liver area.
Bronchitis, flu: by olfaction, diffusion, inhalation or diluted in a vegetable oil to massage the spine (5 drops of EO in a teaspoon of vegetable oil), the thorax (anterior and posterior) and the arch of the foot. Or use it internally after consulting a specialist.
Otitis: 1 drop of EO diluted in 4 drops of vegetable oil, to be applied peri-oricularly. Never use EO in the ear canals.
Allergic rhinitis, rhinopharyngitis: by olfaction, diffusion or inhalation. Or dilute in vegetable oil to massage the back and arch of the foot. Or internally after consultation.
Sinusitis: olfaction, diffusion, inhalation. Dilute in vegetable oil (3 drops of EO in a teaspoon of vegetable oil) and apply to the sinuses (be careful not to use too close to the eyes; in the event of contact with the eyes, apply vegetable oil immediately); or internally after consulting a specialist.
Fatigue: by olfaction, diffusion or inhalation. Or dilute in vegetable oil to massage the back (spine) and arch of the foot (5 drops of EO in a tablespoon of vegetable oil).
